Installing Slop Mop

About a minute, on desktop Chrome or any Chromium browser that installs from the Chrome Web Store (Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, Vivaldi). There is no account to create.

    Open the Chrome Web Store listing

    Go to Slop Mop on the Chrome Web Store. Check the publisher is Slop Mop and the listing links back to slopmop.lol — copycat extensions exist for most things that get popular.

    Add it, and read the permission

    Click Add to Chrome. Chrome asks to let it "Read and change your data on linkedin.com". That is the whole permission: enough to read post text and draw over the feed, on LinkedIn only. Click Add extension.

    What it sends and keeps is in the privacy policy.

    Read the first-run page

    A new tab opens explaining what Slop Mop does and what leaves your browser. Confirm it and Slop Mop starts working. Nothing is judged until you do.

    Pin the mop

    Click the puzzle-piece icon to the right of the address bar, find Slop Mop, and click the pin. The mop now sits in your toolbar, one click from the mode and sensitivity settings.

    Reload LinkedIn

    Tabs that were already open need a reload before Slop Mop can see them. Scroll your feed: posts get judged just before they reach you, and suspected slop folds or gets outlined depending on your mode.

Using it

Mode and sensitivity

Click the mop in your toolbar. Hide folds suspected slop; Highlight outlines it and hides nothing. Mild, Moderate and Aggressive set how easily a post gets flagged.

Opening a folded post

Click the strip's button and the post unfolds in place. Hover any folded or outlined post to see what Jev noticed.

When it gets one wrong

Click the mop icon beside the post's "…" menu and vote No, Maybe or Probably. Your vote overrides the score for your feed.

Turning it off

Use the switch in the popup to pause it. To remove it, right-click the mop and choose Remove from Chrome.

Something's wrong with scoring

Couldn't score this post returned a web page instead of data

Slop Mop checks each post by sending its text to api.slopmop.lol. Either of these messages means something on your network answered instead of our server. It's almost always a network setting, not a problem with your install or with Slop Mop.

A login, "access denied" or "site blocked" page

That page usually names what's intercepting. Find it in step 2.

Fix it by cause

Hotel, airport, café or other public wifi Open any plain http:// site, such as neverssl.com, to bring up the wifi's login page. Accept it, then reload LinkedIn.
A work or school network, proxy or web filter The network is blocking the domain. Ask your IT team to allow api.slopmop.lol, or switch to a personal network or phone hotspot.
A VPN Turn it off, or pick a different server, then retry. Some VPNs block domains they don't recognise.
DNS filtering or an ad-blocker (Pi-hole, NextDNS, AdGuard, router filtering) Add api.slopmop.lol to the allowlist.
Antivirus or "web protection" software Add an exception for api.slopmop.lol, or turn the web shield off briefly to confirm.
Other browser extensions Try an incognito window with only Slop Mop enabled (allow it under Details → Allow in Incognito). If it works there, another extension is interfering.

Confirm it's your network

Try again on a different network, such as a phone hotspot. If it works there, your original network is the cause.

Other messages you might see

Daily limit reached

Each install can check 250 posts a day. The count resets at midnight UTC, and posts already scored keep working.

 Requests from cloud or hosting-provider IP ranges aren't accepted

Slop Mop blocks traffic from data-centre networks to stop automated abuse. If you're on a VPN or cloud desktop, switch it off.

 Too many requests

You're scrolling faster than the per-minute limit. Slop Mop slows down on its own and catches up.

Nothing happens at all

Reload the LinkedIn tab, and check the popup switch is on. Slop Mop only works in the main feed on desktop LinkedIn. When Jev isn't confident about a post, it leaves it alone, so a quiet feed can simply mean a clean one.
